Hello everyone! It's been a while!
Just chiming in to tell everyone that I've recently did some spring cleaning on my DA gallery and favorites. These were in need of SERIOUS editing, sorting, and storing. For years, I had all my favorites without folders. It took a few straight hours, but the other day I was able to sort through all my favorites from the past to the present and clean out the ones I wanted to keep and get rid of the ones I no longer cared as much for- I started with 180 pages and went down to 0! All the remaining favorites that made the cut are now in their own respect folders for you to collectively enjoy, all in one place, for your convenience and browsing!
What a load off my shoulders! Too many years went by (7 in fact) of me leaving it that way. I'm glad DA has updated folders, and given options for how you can store deviations- that made my job alot easier, faster and painless. Now, anytime I want to fave or upload something of my own, I know immediately what folder it needs to go into it. Speaking of which, this is how it breaks down, for your future reference:
-LANDSCAPES AND SCENERY (pictures focusing on environments, locations, etc., will go here)
-PORTRAITS AND PAINTINGS (high quality pictures focusing on figures using paint-like color methods will go here)
-ANIME AND CARTOONS (anime/cartoon style imagery and/or color method will go here)
-PHOTOGRAPHY, COSPLAY AND STOCK (self-explanatory)
I used the same breakdown for my own gallery as well, with the addition of several new folders:
LANDSCAPES AND SCENERY
PORTRAITS AND PAINTINGS
WIPs, SKETCHES AND DOODLES
With favorites, there may appear to be some overlap between the contents of the landscapes folder and the paintings folder, but they are separated because they each meet a particular and/or primary criteria which classes them differently. For example, a picture may have an anime/non anime figure in it, but if the focus of the image is the background and environment, then it will go into landscapes instead. Similarly, if the image has a background, but the focus is on the figure, then depending on the style and quality/method used in the design, it will go either in the portraits or anime folder, and so on.
I found it much easier to sort my favorites than my gallery, though, since there's even more apparent overlap there. Many of my pictures have original ideas or characters, but the picture is also a portrait and a landscape, so I tried to use the same above principle to ensure that my sorting and organization is consistent.
All in all, it was time-consuming but fun. I'm happy about the favorites in particular, since there are alot of good gems in there waiting to be seen and many that I had completely forgotten were even there over the years of them having accumulated. Many of my favorites are inspiring in some way or other and each favorite leads me to other great artists to discover. Just seeing the faves all tidy in their own folder is something to behold and helps me to strive to meet the quality of some of the art in those favorites some day!
I hope you find the favorite folders useful and their contents inspirational, also. Go browse them; there are alot of great artists out there with wonder works waiting to be appreciated!
